What is on the Pediatrics EOR exam?
The Pediatrics EOR exam is 120 multiple-choice questions with a two-hour limit and a ten-minute break between sections. Only 100 of the 120 are scored — the remaining 20 are unscored pretest items, and you cannot tell which is which.
Every question is classified twice: by content area and by task area. Questions arrive as clinical vignettes across the pediatric lifespan, from neonate to adolescent.
The 2026 Pediatrics EOR blueprint update
PAEA publishes updated End of Rotation exams on July 27, 2026. Legacy versions remain available through July 2027, so ask your clinical coordinator which blueprint your program is using.
The headline change: Growth and Development is a brand-new content area at 10%. This is the single largest structural change on any of the six updated exams.

What this means for how you study
Growth and Development at 10% is roughly twelve scored questions on material that had no dedicated home before: developmental milestones, well-child check schedules, growth charts and failure to thrive, screening intervals, anticipatory guidance, puberty and Tanner staging. If you study from an older Pediatrics resource, this is a hole in your preparation.
The exam has pivoted toward wellness and away from treatment. Health Maintenance rises to 14%, History & Physical to 18%, while Clinical Therapeutics drops five points to 15%. Pediatrics is now substantially an exam about the normal child and how you assess one.
Dermatology, historically a Peds EOR staple at 15%, drops to 10%. Still significant, but no longer the outsized weighting it once had.
Professional Practice is new at 8% — the highest of any exam. Consent and assent in minors, mandatory reporting, confidentiality with adolescents. Roughly ten scored questions, and almost nobody prepares for it.
Endocrine, hematology, and renal each rose from 3% to 5% — small in absolute terms, but a 67% increase in weighting.

How to study for the Pediatrics EOR
Learn normal before you learn abnormal. With Growth and Development at 10%, Health Maintenance at 14%, and History & Physical at 18%, over 40% of the updated exam is about assessing a well child. Milestones, growth curves, and immunization schedules are memorizable and heavily weighted — this is the best hours-to-points ratio on the exam.
Know the immunization schedule cold. It is concrete, it is testable, and it appears every year.
Age is always a clue. Pediatric vignettes give you the age for a reason. Intussusception, pyloric stenosis, croup, bronchiolitis, epiglottitis — each has a characteristic age window, and the exam uses it to discriminate.
Do questions early, not at the end. Questions are how you find out what you do not know; reading is how you fix it.

What is the new Growth and Development content area?

Is dermatology still heavily tested?
Less so. It drops from 15% to 10% on the updated blueprint — still meaningful, but no longer the dominant area it was.
